Apprentice Mage would mainly benefit a deck that can reliably spare 2 energy to Empower a unit and that values small on-board tempo plus deck filtering, especially spell-heavy, combo, or midrange blue/utility-style decks that care about finding specific pieces and smoothing draws; the Predict 2 on Empower is the real draw here, since it helps dig for answers or combo parts, while the rewarded +1 might means it becomes a modestly better attacker/defender once turned on, but at a 3-cost body this is still fairly low-impact unless your deck actively leverages Empower triggers or top-deck manipulation. In most normal decks, there are probably better options if you just want stats or immediate board value, because a 3-cost unit that asks for extra mana before it pays off is usually slower than straightforward threats or stronger ETB/value units; compared to those, Apprentice Mage is more of a synergy piece than a standalone staple.
