Counter Strike fits best in reactive, tempo‑oriented control or midrange decks that want to protect a key unit (such as a high‑value engine, combo piece, or win condition) while maintaining card advantage, since it both prevents the next instance of damage and replaces itself; it’s especially strong in metas with lots of burn, combat tricks, or damage‑based removal, and in decks that rely on keeping a single unit alive for multiple turns. However, its value drops against hard removal, exile effects, or decks that don’t rely on damage to answer threats, and in those cases a broader protection spell (like a full “negate,” “phase out,” “shield,” or unconditional indestructible effect if available in the format) would generally be better because those cards answer more situations rather than just the next damage event. If the format is damage‑heavy and you’re protecting must‑kill units, Counter Strike is efficient and worth playing (often as a flexible 2–3‑of), but if removal is mostly non
