**Detonate** is best suited for aggressive or tempo-oriented decks that want cheap, efficient interaction to remove problematic enemy gears while maintaining pressure, since trading 1 resource for a key opposing gear can generate strong tempo even if the opponent draws 2 cards; it can also fit into combo-control builds that don’t care about giving the opponent cards because they plan to win quickly or invalidate those extra draws. However, in slower control decks, the drawback is significant, as giving 2 cards often outweighs the single removal unless the destroyed gear is central to the opponent’s strategy. If the format includes removal that destroys a gear without granting card draw—or more flexible options that can hit multiple card types—those would generally be better, as unconditional removal without downside is stronger.
