Riptide Rex fits best in midrange or tempo-focused Riftbound decks that want flexible removal stapled to a solid unit, especially those that aim to control the battlefield while developing threats; dealing 6 damage on play cleanly answers most mid-sized enemy units while advancing your board, making it strong in metas filled with value creatures or key combo enablers. It’s less ideal in hyper-aggro (too expensive) or hard control (which may prefer cheaper, more efficient or mass removal spells), and it competes with other 6-cost finishers that either provide immediate board-wide impact or recurring value—so if there’s a 6-cost unit that deals comparable damage while also generating ongoing advantage (such as repeatable damage, multiple targets, or card draw), that option would generally be stronger.
