Because it returns the spell to hand instead of trashing it, it’s better in tempo or combo‑control shells that plan to win before the opponent can recast their threat, rather than in hard control decks that prefer permanent answers. If the format includes a cheaper hard counter (like a 1‑cost counter with no drawback) or a true “trash that spell” effect at similar cost, those would generally be stronger in pure control, since they generate real card advantage instead of delay; however, Abandon’s flexibility and built‑in Predict give it strong utility.
