Its low cost makes it efficient for early stabilization or for triggering rune-synergy effects, but on raw power level it likely competes with more impactful 1-cost equips that grant stats, card draw, or reactive protection (such as a hypothetical Swiftguard Plating that grants +1/+2 and ward on entry, or Iron Bastion Sigil that prevents the next instance of damage). If the meta is aggressive and Calm synergy matters, Doran’s Shield is playable as a cheap enabler; however, if stronger standalone defensive equips exist, it may be slightly outclassed unless your deck specifically benefits from low-cost rune attachments.
