**En Garde** fits best in aggressive tempo or duel-focused decks that often attack or defend with a single key unit at a location, such as Voltron-style builds that stack buffs on one threat or low-unit-count midrange decks that spread out to avoid overcommitting; in those strategies it is effectively a 1-cost +2 :rb_might: reaction at instant speed, which is efficient and tactically flexible thanks to its ability to interrupt combat math. It is weaker in swarm decks or board-centric strategies where multiple friendly units commonly share a location, since it will frequently only grant +1 :rb_might:. In terms of power level, any 1-cost reaction that grants an unconditional +2 :rb_might: (or +1 :rb_might: plus an additional keyword like Shield or First Strike) would generally be better because it lacks the positional restriction, making it more reliable.
