A deck focused on artifact recursion and synergy, such as an artifact combo or control deck, would benefit from including Goblin Engineer. While there may be other cards with similar effects like Goblin Welder or Trash for Treasure, Goblin Engineer's ability to tutor for an artifact and put it directly into the graveyard provides valuable setup for future plays. Its flexibility and potential for powerful artifact recursion make it a strong contender for inclusion in decks that can take advantage of its abilities.

Because targets are chosen for activated abilities before costs (such as “Sacrifice an artifact”) are paid, Goblin Engineer’s second ability can’t target the artifact that will be sacrificed to pay its cost.
