Thermo Beam fits best in a control or midrange Riftbound deck that either runs minimal gear itself or uses disposable/low-investment gear, since it symmetrically destroys all gear and punishes opponents who rely heavily on stacking or combo-based equipment strategies; it’s especially strong in metas where gear-centric decks (like Voltron-style builds or engine-dependent loadouts) are popular. However, at 5 cost, it competes with more efficient or asymmetrical removal options—if the format includes cheaper single-target gear removal, selective wipes that spare your own board, or broader board clears that also hit units while ignoring your key pieces, those are often better because they preserve tempo and advantage. Thermo Beam should see play primarily as a meta call or sideboard tech against gear-heavy environments, but in balanced or low-gear metas, it’s likely too narrow and costly to justify over more flexible removal.
