Riposte fits best in midrange or tempo-focused decks that rely on protecting a key unit while turning defense into immediate offensive pressure—especially decks built around a few high-value threats that opponents are likely to target with expensive removal or control spells. Because it both counters a spell and converts that spell’s Energy cost into temporary Might, it shines against slower, spell-heavy control or combo decks that invest significant Energy into single impactful effects; in those matchups, Riposte can generate huge tempo swings. However, in aggressive metas with cheap spells or unit-based interaction, its value drops since countering a low-cost spell yields minimal stat gain.
