Portal Rescue fits best in combo or value-engine decks that rely on powerful “enter the battlefield” (ETB) effects, fragile high-impact units, or units with strong on-play abilities that outweigh their cost—since it effectively lets you reuse those effects for 3 mana while also dodging removal or unfavorable trades in showdowns. It’s especially strong in midrange-combo shells that run units with impactful base-entry triggers, scaling buffs, or summon synergies, as well as in decks that want to reset damaged units or reposition key engines safely. However, in fast aggro decks it’s usually too slow and low-impact, and in pure control it may be inferior to direct protection or hard removal unless your win condition is unit-based.
