First Mate fits best in aggressive or tempo-oriented decks that rely on efficient board development and chaining impactful unit abilities, especially decks with strong “enter play” effects or units that exhaust to attack, activate abilities, or generate value. Ready another unit lets you double-dip on a powerful attacker, reuse a key activated ability, or maintain pressure after committing multiple bodies, making it strongest in synergy-driven or midrange tempo shells rather than slow control lists. However, its power level depends heavily on what it is refreshing—if your faction has cheaper ready effects, units that ready themselves, or stronger 3-cost tempo plays that generate immediate stats plus value, those may outclass it in raw efficiency.
