About Vilemaw
Vilemaw, Unit, designed by Envar Studio first released in Mar, 2026 in the set Unleashed.
Vilemaw fits best in a midrange or control deck that reliably establishes early board presence, since **Ambush** lets you drop it reactively into a battlefield where you already have units, swinging combat math and punishing opponents who try to pressure you with smaller threats; decks that swarm early with efficient bodies or generate disposable units benefit most, because Vilemaw then acts as a combat lock piece—shutting off damage from weaker enemy units—and provides steady card advantage with its “When I hold, draw 1” text, making it especially strong in grindy matchups. However, at 8 cost it competes with other late-game finishers or board-dominating threats that may provide immediate impact (such as units that wipe the board, deal direct damage on entry, or have higher immediate stats without setup), so in faster metas it may be outclassed by cheaper stabilizers or more explosive win conditions; if the format has strong 6–7 cost bombs that stabilize instantly, those may be better
