Rune Prison fits best in tempo or control-oriented decks that want to stall combat, protect key units, or swing a crucial showdown by blanking an opposing threat for a turn. Midrange decks that rely on winning specific combat steps can also use it to force favorable trades or push damage safely. However, because it only prevents combat damage for a single turn and doesn’t remove or permanently answer the unit, it’s generally weaker than hard removal or longer-lasting control effects; cards that destroy, exile, or fully disable a unit for multiple turns are usually stronger inclusions if available in the format.
