Shadows of the Past is best in a grindy control or value-focused deck, especially one that expects long games and wants to reuse strong enter-the-battlefield effects, cheap removal bait units, or combo pieces that end up in the trash; it can also shine in decks that deliberately discard or sacrifice their own units and want to recover key threats. That said, whether it sees play depends heavily on the card pool, because a 3-cost spell that only returns up to 2 units is often slow and situational unless those units are very high impact.
