Obelisk of Power, Battlefield, designed by Chris Kintner first released in Mar, 2026 in the set Origins.
**Obelisk of Power** is best suited for low-curve, tempo, or combo-oriented decks that can exploit early rune acceleration better than the opponent, since its symmetrical effect gives *both* players +1 rune on their first Beginning Phase; decks that can convert that early rune into immediate pressure (aggressive swarm, early engine setups, or fast combo shells) benefit most, while slower control decks gain less relative advantage because they already plan for longer games. However, because the effect is symmetrical and only triggers once per player, it’s generally weaker than one-sided ramp options (such as cards that channel only you a rune, reduce your costs, or provide repeatable rune generation), making it more of a niche enabler than a staple. It could see play in hyper-efficient tempo/combo builds that value 0-cost setup pieces and want to accelerate into a decisive early swing, but in most balanced or control metas, a one-sided ramp card would be strictly better.
