Terastodon zou nuttig zijn in een groene helling of controledek dat tot doel heeft het bord van de tegenstander te verstoren door belangrijke niet-wezenlijke permanenten te verwijderen en tegelijkertijd waarde te genereren door het creëren van olifantenfiches. In de competitieve Magic: the Gathering-formaten zijn er echter vaak efficiëntere opties beschikbaar voor verwijdering en bordcontrole, zoals Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath, dat kaartvoordeel en levenswinst oplevert. Terastodon ziet het spel misschien niet in sterk geoptimaliseerde decks, maar kan nog steeds een leuke en impactvolle toevoeging zijn aan meer casual of thematische decks.
