It’s strongest in metas where large, must-kill units dominate, since 8 damage cleanly answers most threats while also doubling as a finisher. However, if the format includes more efficient removal (for example, a 5–6 cost spell that deals 6–7 damage, or a flexible spell that can split damage, hit multiple targets, or exile a unit), those options are usually better due to tempo and flexibility.
