Shadow Assassin would mainly benefit **recursion/self-mill or sacrifice-focused decks** that can reliably get a copy into the trash early, then deploy a 5-cost ready attacker that effectively “refunds” tempo by coming in untapped; it also fits grindy midrange decks that expect longer games and can keep reusing copies. That said, whether it should see play depends on how strong a 5-cost unit is when it **enters ready** and how easy it is to put a copy in the trash—if that setup is consistent, it’s good; if not, it’s often just an overcosted vanilla body. The “better card” is usually any 5-cost unit with immediate impact that doesn’t need setup, because those are more reliable; if your deck can’t consistently satisfy the trash condition, those cards are generally superior. So, **yes, it should see play only in decks built to enable it**, but in most normal decks it’s probably too conditional compared with cleaner, stronger 5-cost options.
