Zed's Kit - Review

Zed is the first Vendetta legend, and Riot has revealed his entire kit: legend, champion units, and signature card. Let's go through each of these cards, understand how Zed lists will work, and explore a few cards that could support his main strategy.

Zed - Master of Shadows

Zed will interact a lot with his own kit, which means Zed lists will probably be quite unique and "closed" as an archetype.

They'll probably center around creating Shadow Clone Tokens with 0 Might, attacking with them, and using their effect, which lets you banish a unit in your Trash to give your tokens 4 Assault.

This effect will already enable your legend's effect, and this, in turn, will work as a support ability in this list. It will allow you to keep playing your combos by discarding units from your hand and then banishing them to activate your tokens. This will form a cycle, and you can keep it going for as long as you'd like during the match. It's a pretty consistent strategy.

We are used to decks that center around their legend's effect, but this Zed has a support effect instead. It actually fuels the rest of the engine and his main combo.

He has everything to become one of the best decks in the meta, maybe a tier 1 list or a high tier 2 list. But we don't know how it will perform in the Set 4 meta, which will probably be quite dynamic as well as dominated by Kennen and purple/yellow strategies.

Zed - Without a Sound

This purple Zed is really similar to green Azir.

But he has a completely different purpose, as he swaps places with Shadow Token to escape combat and leave that token there attacking or defending.

He will be pretty interesting in the main deck. You can use him as your main mid-game piece to create tokens in your base, but he seems a bit slow as well. His effect is a bit expensive because it needs 1 energy and 1 Power, which could be a lot for this deck, considering it already needs a lot of resources to work.

Zed - From the Shadows

Zed From the Shadows is the champion unit that will certainly see play in your champion zone. He's your main way to start your combo, in fact.

He will kickstart your entire strategy by discarding a unit from your hand and creating a Shadow Clone.

He will also be the most important card in your deck. You might end up using 1 copy in the champion zone and 2 in the main deck: that's how important he is for this strategy.

Death Mark

At first, this card and its effect might seem a bit too expensive, considering it only creates 1 Shadow Clone Token.

But please note that Zed lists will need to put lots of cards in the Trash, and this card does Burn 3. It could be essential, as it's a way to stay active in the match and to activate your Token's effect.

Overall, it has an expensive effect and a Flow effect that is just as expensive, but it will be essential in this strategy.

Cards That Will Certainly See Play in This Archetype

Zed lists need to banish units from the Trash, so, naturally, you'll need lots of units to start. At least more units than spells.

The first unit that will be great in this list is certainly Shadow Order Disciple. Besides being discardable, it is cheap and will allow you to play your combo because it Burns cards.

Another critical unit will be Punching Poro, which has a similar effect, but instead of Burning cards, it discards a card from your hand. So, it's a bit more consistent.

Kennen Storm of Shurikens will be one of the main cards in this strategy as well. He has premium stats, a Burn effect that interacts with this game plan, and a main effect that can fix one of the issues this strategy will have: Burning a spell at the wrong time.

Kennen gives Flow to that spell and lets you play it from the Trash.

Blade Twirler is also quite simple and discardable. It will work wonders in this deck and complement it, as it comes with a Burn effect as well.

Traveling Merchant will certainly be a staple in this deck as well.

What Will It Look Like

This is a pretty rudimentary idea of what a Zed list will probably look like (despite its name). I tried to make it as smooth as possible, with lots of units and ways to discard them, as well as some great Burn effects that won't disrupt you and will activate your tokens at the same time.

This list might turn out pretty expensive, despite how many common cards it plays. Some cards, like red Kai'Sa and Ezreal (and perhaps even a few Zed cards), could make it quite costly.

Nonetheless, it has everything to be one of the most unique and fun lists in Set 4, and I hope it's quite popular, as Zed is one of my favorite League of Legends characters.
